NIANTIC BAY BOARDWALK AND BEACH

This has been a major project  for which the Foundation is well known.  The Foundation conceived of and developed  the original Niantic Bay Overlook (renamed the Boardwalk), and eventually donated it to the town of East Lyme.  The Foundation is committed to helping East Lyme and its Parks and Recreation Department maintain and preserve this natural treasure in the public trust.

There have been essentially three historical phases to date in the development of the Niantic Bay Boardwalk and Beach:

Phase 1:  The Original Overlook.  This started with “the dream” in 1994 and culminated in the original dedication  on July 15, 2005.

Phase 2:  Post 2006 to July 2013, including the reconstruction of the Amtrak Railroad Bridge, starting in 2009,  and the reopening of a newer and larger eastern section of the Niantic Bay Beach in July 2013.

Phase 3:  Planning and reconstruction of western half of Niantic Bay Boardwalk  including rededication May 28, 2016.
